Genie Genie, in my Netipot, can you help clear my stuffy nose?

Some are lucky not to have sinus and/or allergy issues, while the rest of us suffer various levels of agony. One symptom, in particular, is a stuffy Nose.

We will review the Neti pot to find out if it will unstuff a stuffy nose. Stay until the end to also see a demo of how to use the neti pot.

What is a Neti Pot?

A Neti Pot is a pot that is designed to deliver a stream of salt water through one nostril and the other to help relieve sinus and allergy symptoms.

How Does the Neti Pot Work?

A simple explanation of how the neti pot works is that salt water thins the mucous and helps to flush it out of the nose.

What's in the Box?

When I purchased the Neti pot (by NeilMed), it came with the following

  • Netipot
  • 50 Saline Packets
  • Instructions

Pros and Cons When Using a Neti Pot

  • Unbreakable –  In the 4 years I have had the Neti Pot, I have at least dropped it a thousand times, but there is no evidence that I ever had dropped it.
  • Easy to use – It’s only a matter of filling the pot with water and saline and then rinsing your nasal passageways.
  • Clears my symptoms immediately or shortly after use
  • BPA Free

  • Although it is unbreakable, over time, the lid does lose tightness. So it is vital to ensure the lid is on tightly and correctly before use.
  • If you do not get the temperature right, you will notice it. Too cold feels like you are drowning. Too hot, you can burn your nose. Lukewarm is just the right temperature.

Caution When Using the Neti Pot

There can be dire consequences if you do not use this correctly. Our health is our wealth so please ensure you are using the Neti Pot correctly.

  • Contact your physician before you decide to use the neti pot.
  • Must clean before each use ( I personally clean before and after)to clear out any bacteria that may be lingering.
  • Use saline packets to reduce the burning or irritation while rinsing your nasal passages.
  • Use distilled water. From research, this is the purest form of water.
  • Do not rinse if the nasal passage is completely blocked
  • or if you have a new ear infection, ear pain, or blocked ears.
  • If you have recent ear or sinus surgery,
  • If you experience any pressure in the ears, stop.

Additional Neti Pot Tricks and Tricks

  • The more sideways, the better the drainage/flow.
  • Keeping your mouth open helps the flow and also helps you to breathe during the rinse.
  • Be ready for a possible weird feeling (Almost like when you get water in your nose when you go swimming), but it’s ok, you’ll feel so much better moments after you’re finished.
